Governor Jennifer Granholm

State of Michigan

PO Box 30013

Lansing MI 48909

 Dear Madam Governor:

I write to you with a very heavy heart. My first encounter with you personally at the State Democratic Convention in 2005 was while I was waiting to eat. You came up to me, and told me not to worry about the lack of food, they were making additional sandwiches in the kitchen. That touched my heart.

My family started here in Michigan with my great grandfather working on the first railroad through the state and settling in Petoskey in the 19th century. My grandfather was Chair of the Democratic Party of Northern Michigan, and I grew up listening to the Truman convention on the radio. My grandfather lost two of his five boys in WWII, one of whom was my father. I come from a tradition of working with government to make life fair for the citizens. This is the reason for my heavy heart.

I joined the Allegan Democratic Party just before the 2004 General Election and was elected treasurer. In the 2006 General Election, I ran for county commissioner as a proud Democrat from a long tradition of Democrats. I found massive election fraud, and I do not use that word lightly. My observations ended up in a letter to the Bureau of Elections (attached), was given to the State Senate Committee on Elections last June, and no response was made on these very serious charges.

Have the people of Michigan lost their government? If so, we want it back! I am currently the only Democrat running against the Republican Allegan County Clerk that is behind most of the problems. Your Chief of Staff, who I met at your Saugatuck fundraiser before the 2006 election helped me to get the state police to come to Lee Township during a hotly contested recall election. When Joyce Watts said that a Mexican poll watcher that was officially designated as such by the Chair of the Allegan County Democratic Party could not be any closer to the polls than 500 feet, I read the law to the state policeman showing that this was incorrect. His reply floored me: “The only law in Allegan County is Joyce Watts.”

Something must be done to put our government back into the hands of the people, and our elections must be fair and honest with some form of verification to do that. I hope I can count on your help in this matter. You have a very great tradition to uphold. It is not just my family that has lost their children fighting for this right, the tears of grief in this state are large enough to drown out all the greed of corrupt officials.

Sincerely,

Pat Foster

Enclosures: Letters to Michael Cox AG, Chris Thomas, and Mike Ryder Bureau of Elections

Editor's note: The letter was mailed June 18, 2008 certified mail, return receipt requested. It was received on June 20, 2008. I received a response from her office on June 26, 2008 saying that the case had been referred to the Secretary of State's office. Considering that the governor heads the state police, and the investigation had been halted by Detective Doan in Wayland into the "printed ballots of Joyce Watts", she is just passing the buck, when she should be requiring an investigation. She is shirking her responsibility as governor.
