I was informed that there has been an application
for a 9,000 hog CAFO at the site of the old mushroom
factory on 62nd. Please start getting the word out!
Please start calling (888) 287-2889, Senator Birkholz...SHE
IS A KEY DECISION MAKER IN THIS. She chair's the state
enviromental committee and she is on the ag. committee. She is
pro-CAFO(Confined Animal Feeding Operation) as far as I can tell. However, the land this is to be
located is enviromentally sensitive....plus the additional water
usage, farms down stream have already had trouble in the past
of getting enough water from the river to water their crops.
In the future there will be a public hearing that
it is VERY important to attend.
The
Sierra Club has been very helpful, but we need to do our
part to let the state know how we feel!
Please let me know if you hear anything and I
will let you know what I find out. We need to come up with a
plan of action and I need people to help organize an
effort....let me know if you would like to get involved.
